PHONE CALL PERFORMANCE

SANSUSĪ FESTIVAL 2020

LET THE BIRDS LIVE!" is a phone call performance inspired by communication with the patients of Aknīste Psychoneurological Hospital. The audience is invited to have a phone call and walk with a stranger, allowing themselves to embrace the unknown. Blurring the lines between fiction, reality, and humor, the idea behind this performance stems from a simple desire to encourage the audience to listen to each other.

The performance was created during the Sansusi Wellbeing Residency, during which the artist Vita Malahova engaged in daily phone calls with three patients from the clinic. It turned out that all three conversats had the same name - Jānis, and remarkably, all three of them were poets. This is how the idea for the performance - a poetic meeting with Jānis - came about. During the performance, audio messages, original conversations and poems from the conversations are incorporated.
